Indian Women, a mother, a wife, a maid, an alarm clock, a cook and lastly a daughter. There are so many roles of an Indian women in a house and in a society .
Yesterday, I was talking to a daily wager working in bank. She has 3 daughters and a son, a husband who does odd jobs or sometimes work as a laborer on daily wages. These days a son of her brother in law has also come to stay with them, that means one more mouth to feed. This Women got married at a tender age on 14 years, didn’t even knew what it is to be married. She became a mother at the age of 15 years. She obviously belong to a rural area where girls are married as soon as possible. That doesn’t matter actually, if she belongs to rural area or urban area, in India girls are still being married at the tender age of 14.
She has to work as a daily wager as she is not educated enough, with a income of 6000/- per month and perhaps a little more ( with odd jobs of her husband), she has to feed 6 mouths. She can’t take care of her health even if she wants to, as she has 4 kinds to take care of. She sits all day in the bank, no smile on her face only tension.
This was the story of a rural Indian women, what about the modern women these days? Women no doubt has reached many heights in their career and they seldom compromise what they want for anybody. But, still there is tiny percentage of women, who have the same story as the daily wager in the bank. The only difference is she doesn’t get married at the age of 14, but 21. She also have dreams, may be of a fulfilled career or she wants to do certain things in life.
- Gets married (with dreams of a happy life)
- Have to leave the job (as the home demands her attention)
- within 2 years, a baby in her lap (in-laws want you to start a family)
- Only dream and her world for her is her baby.
She cannot go anywhere with her friends as she cannot take the baby along. She cannot work as the baby is too young, he needs care. By chance, if she is still allowed to work, she cannot take time off, her husband is allowed to take time off, but she cannot. When, she has a baby, even her husband stops giving her attention as she is no more attractive ( cuz of the post baby fat and all the care being given to the baby). That’s it. Life is her baby only.
There was a girl, who wanted to start her fashion design label. She is very good at sketching and has completed her studies in fashion. She was married. Her husband was really supportive and all. She even started doing it. She launched her website and started working. But, as i told you she was married. Soon after she had her first baby and all her dreams went down and ended with the baby.
No matter what you do, this is how Indian society works. I see hope. But, it is not possible without an understanding and SUPPORTIVE partner. It work both ways. But, still I have not found a single man, who is this supportive of her wife.
